Algae Production

Algae Production

Algae are organisms that grow in aquatic environments and use light and carbon dioxide (CO2) to produce biomass. Plants are relatively undifferentiated and have no true roots and leaves. Algae can be divided into two categories: larger multicellular macroalgae (seaweeds) and smaller unicellular microalgae (phytoplankton). They both get their nutrients directly from seawater and rely on sunlight to generate energy through photosynthesis. There is growing interest in studying the role of macroalgae and microalgae in ecosystems and their potential to provide solutions to a range of global problems. Algae are also important producers of vitamins, minerals and fatty acids. Many species of algae have applications in food, dairy, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and industrial. Due to its high oil content and fast biomass production, algae are considered a potential good source for biofuel production. Algae is used as one of the important medical sources due to its antioxidant, anticancer, and antiviral properties.

Our Services

CD BioSciences provides customers with cost-effective standard algal culture services with research quality. Every project we undertake is carried out in accordance with the service quality standards specified by the customer. CD BioSciences has a staff of formally trained and qualified physiologists with extensive practical experience in algae production systems design and algae culture.

  • Algae Production Systems Design
Our algal production systems R&D funded by the Advanced Algal Systems Program focuses on a variety of algal culture systems. Cultivation systems must minimize resource use and cost while maximizing productivity.
  • Algae Culture
    Our algae cultures strategies include:
    • Crop protection
    • Water and nutrient management
    • Ecosystem design
    • Lighting optimization
    • Temperature management
    • Seasonal inheritance
  • Biomass Characterization
The basic composition of algae varies widely between strains and compared to plants. Understanding the biomass characteristics of algae at different stages of the growth cycle is critical for developing cultivation management strategies, downstream processes, and final products.
