Analysis of Marine Microbial Diversity

Analysis of Marine Microbial Diversity

Marine microbes are uniquely important to life. Since life likely originated in the oceans, marine microbes are the closest extant descendants of primitive life forms. They are also the main pillars of the biosphere. Their unique metabolism enables marine microbes to perform many steps of biogeochemical cycles that other organisms cannot. The metabolic diversity of marine microbes enables them to function in many biogeochemical cycles that other organisms cannot. Another oft-mentioned aspect of marine microbial community structure is the so-called "beta-diversity". Studies of decade-long time series at different sites reveal that the composition of surface water microbial communities varies with recurring seasonal patterns. Advances in microbial diversity analysis, natural product chemistry, metabolomics or metabolic engineering now provide access to unknown dimensions of chemical diversity, marine microbial diversity as a source of biologically active natural products. Understanding the physiological and ecological roles of these microbial metabolites and their putative biological activities as well as advances in the understanding and use of biosynthetic routes to guide and accelerate product development.

Our Services

Our team of experienced assay biologists will provide consultative methodologies throughout, recommend routine new methods, and develop tailor-made solutions when commercially available assays are not suitable or do not exist. CD BioSciences provides intellectual input for diversity analyses of marine microorganism that will provide you with decision-support datasets in a time- and cost-effective manner.

  • Patterns Analysis of Microbial Diversity
At CD BioSciences, our scientists use 16S rRNA gene profiling to gain insight into the structure of marine microbial communities.
  • Diversity Analysis of Marine Microbial Distribution
We provide distribution and diversity analysis services for fish, algae, and invertebrates, such as sponges, mollusks, coelenterates, tunicates, and crustaceans.
  • Diversity Analysis of Marine Microbial Genomes
We conduct a comprehensive review of our client's marine biological samples through high-throughput sequencing. We provide a service that systematically evaluates genomic features, including genome size, GC content, and phylogeny.

Our Technologies of Diversity Analysis

  • Molecular Marker Technology
    • Restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP)
    • Simple sequence repeat (SSR)
    • Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)
  • Electrophoresis
    • Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE)
    • Temperature gradient gel electrophoresis (TGGE)
  • Metagenomics
Our scientists use metagenomic technology to mainly study the genetic composition of microorganisms and their community functions contained in genomes obtained from marine samples.
  • Molecular Hybridization Technology
    • Stable isotope probing
    • Real-time quantitative PCR

Sample Requirement

Analysis of Marine Microbial Diversity

  • Experimental samples will not be returned, please back up by yourself.
  • Before sampling, a control group and an experimental group should be set up, and it is recommended to repeat more than 3 times for each group.
  • There is no limit to the variety of marine samples.
  • For breeds with special requirements or rare breeds, please contact our staff for more information.
