Identification and Quantification of Marine Polyether Toxins

Identification and Quantification of Marine Polyether Toxins

Mainly produced by marine dinoflagellates, marine polyether toxin is a novel, complex and diverse natural product with a wide range of toxicological and pharmacological effects. The most notable feature of marine polyether toxin is the presence of one or more ether rings in their molecules, ranging in size from five-membered to nine-membered rings. Marine polyether toxins are classified into linear, trapezoidal (or fused) and macrolide polyethers according to their ether ring arrangement and molecular structure. Typical examples of marine polyether toxins are palytoxins (PLTXs), okadaic acid (OA), pectenotoxins (PTXs), maitotoxins (MTXs), brevetoxins (BTXs), ciguatoxins (CTXs), spirolides, gymnodimines, and pinnatoxins. Marine polyether toxins are widely used in marine red tide outbreaks due to their harmful effects and potential value for new drug development. Toxicology, pharmacology, detection analysis, structure identification and other aspects have been widely studied. as their biosynthetic mechanism. Although the biosynthetic mechanism of marine polyether toxins still unclear, some progress has been made. CD BioSciences provides services for the identification and quantification of marine polyether biotoxins. Our analytical services include microbial identification, qPCR, whole genome sequencing and bioinformatics, in vitro experiments, in vivo assays, and chemical analysis.

Our Services

At CD BioSciences, we have extensive experience in providing fast and accurate identification and quantification of polyether biotoxins according to international standards. Our services are listed as follows, but are not limited to:
detected in shellfish

  • In Vivo Assays of Marine Polyether Toxin
Mice are observed for 24 hours and toxicity was determined based on survival time and symptoms.
  • In Vitro Assays of Marine Polyether Toxin
    • Functional assays
These assays depend on characteristic responses related to the mode of action of the toxin in cultured cells.
    • Structural assays (immunoassays)
This assay is based on measuring the recognition of the toxin by specific antibodies.
  • Chemical Identification and Quantification of Marine Polyether Toxin
Chemical methods include the first step in toxin isolation, followed by the identification and quantification of each toxin. These methods rely on measuring instrument responses proportional to toxin concentration.
    • Liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD)
    • Liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS)
    • Capillary electrophoresis with UV/MS detection
