Phytoplankton Detection

Phytoplankton Detection

Phytoplankton is an ecological concept that refers to tiny plants that live in plankton in water. Generally, phytoplankton refers to phytoplankton algae, including Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta, Diatoms, Chrysophyta, Xanthophyta, Dinophyta, Cryptophyta, and Euglenophyta. It is understood that there are about 40,000 species of algal plants in the world, of which there are about 25,000 species of freshwater algae. Phytoplankton are not only the most important primary producers in aquatic ecosystems, but also the main suppliers of dissolved oxygen in water. It plays a vital role. The species composition, community structure and abundance changes of phytoplankton directly affect the water quality, energy flow, material flow and biological resources of the system. Phytoplankton are also important organisms that fix carbon and nitrogen on earth. Phytoplankton, despite their small size, have (mostly) the ocean amplifying their action. The total amount of carbon and nitrogen fixed by phytoplankton is more than the total amount fixed by terrestrial plants in the world.

Our Detection Method of Phytoplankton

At CD BioSciences, phytoplankton detection in water is often performed by filter microscopy counting. Use a filter membrane with a certain pore size to intercept the collected water samples on the filter membrane. After the filter membrane is transparent, detect the colonies, filaments and single cells of phytoplankton under a microscope, so as to understand the water quality of the water samples.

Sample Request

Sample Request
  • Experimental samples will not be returned, please back up by yourself.
  • A control group and an experimental group need to be set up before sampling, and it is recommended that each group be repeated more than 3 times. There are no restrictions on phytoplankton species.
  • For breeds with special requirements or rare breeds, please contact our staff for more information.
