Seaweed Trace Elements Analysis

Seaweed Trace Elements Analysis

Most seaweed meal industrially produced today is used as a feed additive for livestock. Numerous feeding experiments have been conducted to study the nutritional value of seaweed. Changes in dietary processing and storage may be important factors affecting its nutritional value. Although the results of these experiments are conflicting, seaweed meal is generally accepted as a mineral and vitamin in some compound feeds. In addition, there may be trace elements in the chemical combination that can enhance the nutritional effects of these elements. This may be an explanation for the beneficial effect of adding seaweed meal compared to other mineral sources in the experiments. The engineers of CD BioSciences have extensive experience and extensive expertise in algal analysis. They find the most cost-effective and safest solution for any project. Especially in the analysis of trace elements in seaweed, we use an optimized and validated ICP-MS method to perform determination of trace elements.

Our Services

Innovation is our passion. We have an experienced technical support team in trace elements determination to assist you with project development and improvement.

Cadmium Analysis Molybdenum Analysis Nickel Analysis
  • Cadmium (Cd) occurs naturally in the environment as cadmium sulfide. Cadmium strongly absorbs organic matter in the soil.
  • Molybdenum (Mo), a trace element, is an essential component of enzymes that fix nitrate to nitrate, which is then further converted to ammonia.
  • Nickel (Ni) is a constituent of different plant enzymes, especially urease, which converts other harmful constituents into ammonia.
Arsenic Analysis Mercury Analysis Cobalt Analysis
  • Arsenic (As) occurs naturally and is bound to inorganic or organic substances. Arsenic is present in soil and natural water.
  • Mercury (Hg) is a naturally occurring metal. It is known to have effects on photosynthesis and oxidative metabolism by interfering with electron transport in the chloroplast.
  • Cobalt (Co) is a trace element that acts as a component of certain plant enzymes and also increases the resistance of plant seeds to drought.

Our Techniques

We have a complete research method for microelements in seaweed and can conduct systematic analysis. Our analytical tools include:

  • Inductively coupled plasma (ICP-OES)
Our laboratory is equipped with ICP-OES for trace element analysis of biomass and algae.
  • LC/GC and MS
LC/GC and MS parameter settings and analytical results for monitoring analytical processes.
  • Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)
An inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) is a mass spectrometer that uses inductively coupled plasma to ionize a sample for trace elements determination in edible seaweeds.
