Databases Construction of the Marine Metagenomics

The study of marine microbial communities will help us understand the repertoire of microorganisms adapted to specific niches, and ultimately the microbial dynamics underlying their interactions in the biosphere. Dynamic changes in marine microbial diversity can be used to monitor environmental conditions to predict catastrophic and harmful changes in the environment. It also facilitates efficient exploration of novel and useful proteins and metabolites for industrial applications. In fact, the vast library of microorganisms can be regarded as a valuable resource for potential drugs and materials. Metagenomes are an effective method to examine the diversity of microbial communities. Data Generation for Two Approaches in Marine Metagenomics

The rapid growth of marine metagenomic data is mainly due to the advances in sequencing capabilities of NGS technologies in recent years. NGS-based metagenomic studies use two different approaches:

  • Amplicon-based Approach
    Amplicon-based approaches using rRNA genes as targets are the most widely used methods in marine metagenomic research. CD BioSciences uses this method to generate large numbers of 16S rRNA gene fragments from diverse marine microbial communities in a cost-effective and rapid manner. Likewise, the 18S rRNA gene was used to identify marine eukaryotic microorganisms.
  • Shotgun Sequencing-based Approach
    Shotgun based methods are more time consuming and costly. CD BioSciences uses this method to generate large numbers of short sequences (200-1000 bp) from different regions of the genome, not just rRNA genes.
