Marine Microbial Production of Lipoprotein Biosurfactant

Marine Microbial Production of Lipoprotein Biosurfactant

Surface-active compounds are one of the most commonly used chemicals in everyday life. The production of various synthetic surfactants from marine sources has increased substantially since the early 20th century. With increasing focus on sustainable processes for human and planetary health, there has been considerable interest in "bio-based surfactants". Glycolipids, fatty acids, phospholipids, neutral lipids, lipopeptides and lipoproteins are the most important low molecular weight biosurfactants. Lipoproteins are complexes formed by the combination of lipids and proteins. It can also be seen as a water-soluble protein complexed with lipids, belonging to a biochemical assembly. CD BioSciences provides services for the production of lipoprotein surfactants by marine microorganisms. Biosurfactants produced by marine microorganisms can improve cellular mobility, provide nutrients or promote growth in the environment. The biosurfactants we produce are made through chemical synthesis in a semi-continuous batch process and microbial fermentation, giving you the ability to scale that conventional production methods cannot dream of.

Our Services

For many years, we have been exploring the concept of designing novel surfactants using novel bio-based technologies. Sustainable products from renewable sources have been around for many years, but most have very limited capabilities in terms of performance compared to synthetic counter types. Our role is to develop a range of bio-based products that offer performance comparable to synthetic products in a wide range of applications.

  • Preparation of enrichment cultures
  • Isolation and characterization of pure biosurfactant-producing strains
  • Liquid-liquid extraction
  • Biosurfactant purification
  • Biosurfactant detection-characterization

Technological Platform

Marine Microbial Production of Lipoprotein Biosurfactant
  • Fourier Transform IR Spectroscopy (FT-IR)
CD BioScientces performs biosurfactant assays on crude extracts using an appropriate solvent system.
  • Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC)
CD BioScientces uses liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry to separate and characterize lipoprotein mixtures.
  • Fourier Transform IR Spectroscopy (FT-IR)
Infrared spectroscopy is a simple method for structural analysis. CD BioSciences uses infrared spectroscopy to characterize the structure of lipoproteins, which facilitates the optimization of subsequent separation and purification processes.

Highlights of Our Lipoprotein Biosurfactant

  • Our biosurfactants provide excellent cleaning performance and are compatible with ingredients such as surfactants and builders, polymers, solvents and alcohols.
  • Biosurfactants derived from marine sources and produced through sustainable production methods are 1,4-dioxane compliant and have low toxicity.
  • The biosurfactants we produce are made through chemical synthesis in a semi-continuous batch process and microbial fermentation, giving you the ability to scale that conventional production methods cannot dream of.
