Compared with terrestrial animals, cell culture in aquatic animals has been relatively successful only in fish. In aquatic invertebrates, due to the particularity of invertebrate cells in terms of morphology, structure and function, and nutritional requirements, since the 1970s, although nearly half a century of efforts have been made, aquatic invertebrates have not yet been established. The immortalized cell lines of Annelida mostly stay at the level of primary culture and limited cell lines.
