Algal Biodiversity Assessment

Algal Biodiversity Assessment

Algal diversity is considered the level of species richness and higher taxonomic ranks, as well as the diversity of algal-dominant habitats and their functional importance in the processes they mediate. The geographic distribution of algae showed significant differences in species richness and endemism in different regions. The coasts with the most tremendous algal diversity occur in temperate and tropical waters. The high endemism of seaweed does not appear to correlate with overall species richness. Little information is available on microalgae, but for some groups, high endemism occurs in areas of low diversity. The species diversity of algae can reflect the individual distribution abundance of algae and the degree of water pollution in different environments. In recent years, CD BioSciences has conducted biological investigation and evaluation of various algae and has gradually established a relatively mature eutrophication evaluation system and method suitable for most algae.

  • Diversity Index Calculation of Algal Community Structure Services
There are many diversity indices for analyzing algal community structure, including Shannon-Weaver index, Simpson index, Brillouin number, Margalef index, Pielou evenness index, Frontier rank frequency map, Menhinick index, Berger-Parker index, Mc Intosh index, etc.

Sample Request

  • Provide relevant documents and some data reference from previous years.
  • Provide water samples (fixed with 3% formaldehyde).
  • Consumables used in the analysis process: such as reagents, slides, slide boxes, etc.
  • Provide national standard methods for sample processing and analysis (if possible).

Algal Diversity Assessment Analysis Workflow

Algal Biodiversity Assessment
  • Image acquisition: 8 samples will be randomly selected, and images will be acquired at 200-1000 times of fluorescence microscope (4d*6h).
  • Image Analysis: Offline software measures cell size. The weight of a single or cell mass will be converted according to the cell size (2d*6h).
  • Type identification: According to high-definition pictures, map comparison and identification of cell types will be performed (4d*6h).
  • Microscopic observation of cell diversity: Diluted or concentrated samples will be selected based on sample concentration and cell counts will be performed.
  • Data aggregation and arrangement: Difficult diatom samples may be treated with acid to corrode the cell shell.
