Brown Algae Culture

Brown algae (Phaeophyceae) are a group of multicellular heterogeneous bodies that are ubiquitous in today's oceans. With great potential in the global market, controlled brown algae farming at sea is more sustainable, stable and productive, with better harvest quality than wild algae. Due to the rapid growth of the global population, we must begin to further seek to meet our needs in: energy, nutrition, environment. Algae farming is expected to generate substantial new market potential. CD BioSciences provides a one-stop service, from a complete turnkey brown algae farm to all consumables and related services: seedlings, substrates, installation, tools, and consulting. Brown algae do not require pesticides or fresh water, they grow faster than any land plants. Together with our direct seeding and mechanized processes, we can help you develop the most efficient brown algae cultivation. The system and advanced substrates of CD BioSciences increase the yield per square meter compared to traditional long-line systems.

Our Services

CD BioSciences is committed to joint investment projects and knowledge exchange on all aspects of sustainable brown algae cultivation. In the early stage of many algae applications and research work, CD BioSciences provides brown algae culture services for customers who lack the relevant technical personnel, medium formulations and culture equipment.

  • Bladder Wrack Culture
An olive-brown algae with smooth-edged branches.
  • Knotted Wrack Culture
This tawny alga has leaves up to two meters long. A large air pocket appears periodically along its length.
  • Spiral Wrack Culture
Spiral remains are generally pale olive brown and can be up to 40 cm long.
  • Serrated Wrack Culture
This brown alga forms branching leaves that are 50 to 80 cm long. The edges are jagged.
  • Oarweed Culture
Oarweed has dark brown-green leaves, up to two meters long, that split into long, finger-like leaves.
  • Sugar Kelp Culture
Sugar kelp forms long, intact leaves that are yellowish-brown and frilled on both sides. This alga grows up to five meters in length.

Our Brown Algae Culture Techniques

Alga farming can be carried out at sea, on land or even in integrated aquaculture systems. The cultivation of algae is selected according to the species, cultivation location and cultivation facilities.

Brown Algae Culture
  • Off-bottom
  • Submerged hanging line
  • Floating line (long-line)
  • Net cultivation (depth, floating at the surface or slightly submerged)
  • Floating raft cultivation
  • Tank or pond cultivation
  • Rock-based farming
