Risk Assessment of Marine Biotoxin

Risk Assessment of Marine Biotoxin

Marine biotoxins are natural compounds mainly produced by marine microalgae, dinoflagellates and diatoms. The toxins produced by a small number of algae can harm humans and bring fatal risks, while hindering the exploration of flower resources and the development of marine medicines. Biotoxins may bioaccumulate in marine animals through normal physiological activities. The subsequent accumulation of biotoxins in marine organisms consumed as food brings the consequent potential to reach concentrations that pose a risk of poisoning to consumers of these products after harvest. Marine biotoxins are non-protein metabolites with diverse and complex structures, physical properties and specific mechanisms of action. Typically, their molecular weight ranges from 250 to 3000 Da. At present, the risk assessment methods of marine biotoxins include biological detection method, physical and chemical detection method and comprehensive detection method. Bioassays are a common method for the determination of marine biotoxins. However, biological tests are not entirely satisfactory, mainly due to low sensitivity and lack of specialized changes. At CD BioSciences, our scientists use physicochemical assays in conjunction with biological assays to assess toxicity risk.

Our Services

We have been providing high-quality services for many years: the service quality and evaluation system of marine toxins allow us to implement our philosophy. Customer service, continuous monitoring of market needs, research and development activities, all aimed at designing and manufacturing services that meet project needs. Our services are listed as follows, but are not limited to:

  • Sampling, DNA extraction and shotgun metagenomic sequencing
  • Computational data analysis: bioinformatics and statistics
  • Assembly-free taxonomic profiling
  • Assembly-free profiling of functional potential
  • De novo assembly
  • In-vitro assays
  • liquid chromatography (LC) coupled to fluorometric detection (LC-FLD)
  • LC-MS/MS determination
  • Enzymatic, colorimetric, and other tests
  • Receptor binding assay (RBA)

Our Technology Platform

Our Technology Platform
  • Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISAs)
ELISA is a powerful analytical tool for the detection of natural toxins.
  • Phage Display Technology
This in vitro strategy provides a valuable system to easily and rapidly generate targeted different antigens, including difficult targets as small molecules. Semi-synthetic phage display libraries are used to select recombinant antibodies against biotoxins.
  • Biosensors
Biosensors are measurement systems based on biometric components with three functional parts: biological components, cells, microorganisms, antibodies, sensors capable of measuring biomolecules interaction.
  • Lateral Flow Immunochromatography
Lateral flow immunochromatographic analysis is based on a competitive immunoassay format and provides a qualitative indication of the presence of marine biotoxins and analogs.
