Sponge Cell Culture

The remarkable advantage of sponge cell culture in vitro is that the culture system is completely controllable and can realize the regulation and optimal production of target metabolites. On the one hand, it is suitable for industrial scale-up, on the other hand, the potential of high-level production of active substances makes it economically feasible, and has significant application and development value. At the same time, because sponge cells are very suitable for the study of animal cell signal transduction, the research on the in vitro culture of sponge cells is also of high value in basic biological research. This field has attracted scientific research forces from many countries including Germany, Israel, the United States, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, and Japan. From 1970 to the present, with the maturation of animal cell culture technology and the accumulation of understanding of sponge cells, people began to pay attention to the long-term continuous sponge cell culture system in order to realize the large-scale industrial production of sponge biomass and ultimately the production of sponge drugs.

Our Services

CD BioSciences provides sponge cell services based on our advanced technology platform and a range of capabilities. Our team distinguishes itself based on a strong commitment to our partners' innovative solutions and high-quality research and development.

  • Dissociation of Tissue Cells of Sponge
CD BioSciences uses mechanical separation, chemical and enzymatic methods.
    • Mechanical Separation
Mechanical separation involves squeezing the cells through a fine mesh to disperse them. This method has high separation efficiency but high cell loss.
    • Chemical Method
The chemical method is to use artificial seawater without calcium and magnesium to automatically separate tissue cells. This method is convenient and efficient, and has a high cell yield. It is a commonly used method at present.
    • Enzymatic Method
Enzymatic method is using trypsinization of cells, or a combination of method to obtain better dispersion of cells.
  • Cell Screening
The cells in the sponge are divided into several categories: epithelial squamous cells, protocells (i.e., amoeba cells), collar cells, and pore cells. CD BioSciences uses gradient density centrifugation and chromatographic separation with light microscopy to separate Dysidea avara and avarol.
  • Establishment of Pure Cultured Sponge Cell Lines
CD BioSciences provides a high-salt, high-osmosis, pollution-free culture environment for the growth of sponges. The requirements for culture of sponge cells are also different from those of ordinary animal cells and microorganisms.

Sponge Application in Drug Development

Sponge active substances have the general characteristics of natural polymers: multipolymerization, ring formation, high degree of unsaturation and high heteroatom content. The development of sponge active substances, especially in drug development, will be a promising field. Numerous anti-tumors, anti-fungal, and even anti-HIV active substances have been found in sponges. Sponge can solve the problem of "insufficient drug source supply" in clinical application and commercial development.

CD BioSciences is a professional service provider for the marine biology industry.
