Development of Marine-Based Drug Delivery Vehicles

Development of Marine-Based Drug Delivery Vehicles

In general, biomaterials as drug carriers must be able to bind drugs, retain them at specific sites, and gradually deliver them to surrounding tissues over time. To produce greater potency and less toxicity to healthy tissues, therapeutic agent delivery systems are required to control the release rate of localized drugs to maintain desired drug concentration levels without reaching toxic levels or below minimum effective levels. However, major challenges center on how to modulate drug release rates to keep their concentrations within the therapeutic window, how to personalize dosing regimens for different individuals, and effective ways to target affected tissues while leaving healthy tissues unharmed. The use of available marine biodegradable materials in the design of drug delivery devices can address these challenges due to their outstanding ability to deliver drugs locally and in a controlled manner to different parts of the host's body. Biodegradable materials derived from marine have good biocompatibility and diverse biological activities, and can be used as sustained and controlled release carriers for drugs. They can be used as tissue substitutes and porous scaffolds in tissue engineering, and are widely used.

Our Services

Scientists at CD BioSciences conduct extensive research and development on drug carrier technologies and entrapment technologies. Through the development of marine resources, the drug carrier we developed can deliver the desired dose at the target site at an appropriate time and rate to improve the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the drug.

  • Scaffold Design for Drug Delivery
Marine skeletons have the potential to develop regenerative medicines in drug delivery systems. Drug-loaded natural marine spheres can spontaneously degrade and gradually release the embedded biological content relatively slowly over a long period of time.
  • Nanoparticle Development for Drug Delivery System
CD BioSciences is committed to developing suitable drug carriers and nanotechnology to deliver drugs to lesion sites for disease treatment.
  • Microsphere Technology Development
CD BioSciences develops microsphere technology and microsphere preparation process based on a thorough understanding of the physicochemical properties of loaded drugs
  • Development of Drug Carrier Made from Alginate
Based on the control of alginate gelation by calcium ions, it produces small particles with a well-defined size range (250–850 nm) as drug carriers, depending on the alginate concentration.
Characteristics of Marine-Based Drug Delivery Vehicles

Characteristics of Marine-Based Drug Delivery Vehicles

  • Nontoxicity
Marine-based drug delivery vehicles are noncarcinogenic, nonpyrogenic, nonallergenic, blood compatible, and noninflammatory of bio-material.
  • Biocompatible
Biocompatibility is generally defined as the ability of a biological material to perform with an appropriate host response during a specific application.
  • Absence of foreign body reaction
