Haematococcus Pluvialis Production

Haematococcus pluvialis is a freshwater green microalga that is the best source of natural astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is one of the most powerful antioxidants known to man. Haematococcus pluvialis microalgae produce astaxanthin to protect themselves from stressful environmental conditions. In summer, when conditions get stressful and the climate starts to dry out, astaxanthin enables the microalgae to keep their DNA intact and be ready to grow again when the next rain comes. This extraordinary ability demonstrates the function of astaxanthin as an excellent antioxidant. In fact, some studies show that natural astaxanthin derived from microalgae is more than 500 times stronger than vitamin E and more potent than other carotenoids. Astaxanthin is known to be a rich, deep red pigment that not only provides shrimp, krill, and salmon with their unique color but also helps salmon gain the stamina needed to swim upstream for up to 2,000 miles, in addition to powering birds with incredible eye sight.

Our Services

CD BioSciences is working on microalgae solutions for the animal and aquafeed industries, providing sustainable plant-based ingredients that meet the specific needs of animal nutrition in terms of nutritional content and functionality. Our services are listed as follows, but are not limited to:

  • Haematococcus pluvialis production
  • Haematococcus pluvialis cultivation
  • Gene sequencing of Haematococcus pluvialis
  • Genetic modification of Haematococcus pluvialis
  • Combinatorial design of microalgae production

Our Methods of Haematococcus Pluvialis Production

  • Cultivation by photobioreactor
Our most commonly used method of microalgae production is the photobioreactor, a technology that requires high investment and operating costs as well as large amounts of energy.
  • Cultivation in open pond
We also support the use of cultivation in open ponds for microalgae, an approach that involves lower investment, and energy costs. It has the potential to generate higher biomass.
  • Cultivation in fermenter
The use of fermenters is a relatively newly developed method by which we achieve higher productivity, contamination control, and biomass quality and profile control.
