Marine Microbial Stability Testing

The ocean is a source of useful natural medicinal products. The use of marine wildlife for natural bioactive products focuses on a few organisms, including sponges, mollusks, tunicates and macroalgae. These have been shown to generate a very diverse range of unique molecular structures, such as halogenated terpenes, polyketides, and prostaglandins. Marine natural products are usually safe and non-polluting, and are mainly used in the discovery of pharmaceutical active ingredients, vaccine carriers design, and repairment of biofilms. For cosmetics, the focus is on key requirements regarding their stability, efficacy and harmlessness. Therefore, a lot of effort has been put into finding cosmetic ingredients that are effective, safe and natural against marine microorganisms. Microbial stability plays a crucial role here, especially when it comes to consumer safety. The purpose of stability testing is to provide evidence of how the quality of pharmaceuticals, biological products, cosmetics changes over time under the influence of various environmental factors. It helps determine retest periods for APIs, shelf life for biological products, cosmetics, and recommended storage conditions.

Our Services

The method of sampling and testing is specific to the product and manufacturing process. Learn how CD BioSciences performs marine microbial stability testing to save you time and money. A stability study may include tests for:

  • Degradation
  • Changes in PH
  • Dissolution test
  • Moisture content
  • Microbial activity

Stability testing is divided into three different studies.

Stability Testing Storage Condition
Long Term /Real-time ICH Stability Testing 25°C ± 2°C/60% RH 5% RH or 30°C ± 2°C/65% RH 5% RH for 12 months
Intermediate Stability Testing 30°C ± 2°C/65% RH 5% RH for 6 months
Accelerated Stability Testing 40°C ± 2°C/75% RH 5% RH for 6 months

Marine Microbial Stability Testing Frequency

For long-term studies, testing frequency should generally be every 3 months for the first year, every 6 months for the second year, and annually thereafter for the recommended retesting period.

Under accelerated storage conditions, at least three time points, including an initial time point and a final time point (e.g., 0, 3, and 6 months).

Specification of Marine Microbial Stability Testing

Stability studies include testing product attributes that are susceptible to change during storage and that could affect quality, safety, and/or efficacy. CD BioSciences tests your products for physical and biological changes (microbiological properties).
