Seaweed Major Elements Analysis

Seaweed Major Elements Analysis

The main mineral components in seaweed are iodine, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, sodium, potassium and chlorine. In addition, there are many important trace elements such as zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, molybdenum and chromium. Mineral composition, in particular, varies greatly from one type of seaweed to another. The iodine content of kelp is 100-1000 times that of seaweed. On average, dulse (a widely consumed red seaweed) is the worst choice in terms of mineral and vitamin content, but on the other hand, it has far more potassium than sodium. In general, seaweed is a better source of iron than foods like spinach and egg yolks. Seaweed contains all the essential trace elements and minerals that perform various essential functions in the body, helping to improve overall health and prevent chronic diseases including cancer. However, algal mineral content depends on species, season, location and many other environmental factors.

Our Services

CD BioSciences has extensive experience in the detection of major elements in algae. With rich experience, our expert team has participated in a number of university scientific research projects and mastered a variety of advanced technologies.

Aluminium Analysis Magnesium Analysis Silicon Analysis
  • Aluminum has no known biological role; however, it may be present in biomass due to uptake of nutrients from acidic soils.
  • Magnesium (Mg) is an alkaline earth metal and is the central atom of chlorophyll. Additionally, it helps activate many plant enzymes.
  • Silicon (Si) is a metalloid that plants absorb from monosilicic acid in the soil.
Calcium Analysis Phosphorus Analysis Sodium Analysis
  • Calcium (Ca) is an alkaline earth metal. It is important for many biological functions in plants.
  • Phosphorus (P) is an important component of plant nucleic acids such as DNA. These are essential for gene expression, protein synthesis and cell division.
  • Sodium (Na) is an alkali metal. It is not considered an essential nutrient for plant growth, but it is still used to help with many metabolic processes.
lron Analysis Potassium Analysis Titanium Analysis
  • Iron (Fe) is a transition metal that forms part of many plant enzymes and is essential for chlorophyll formation.
  • Potassium (K) provides the ionic environment required for metabolic processes within plant cells.
  • Titanium (Ti) is a transition metal. It is present in sediments from algae and has many physiological effects on plants.

Sample Requirement

Because algal mineral content depends on species, season, location, and many other environmental factors, sample size requirements vary for each test item. For details, please check the details page of each test item. There are no restrictions on algae species in the pilot project. For breeds with special requirements or rare breeds, please contact our staff for more information.
